Playground shading — what the new Polish rules say
In Poland, the draft of the new regulation on the technical conditions for buildings and their location (version of 24 April 2026, § 33(4)) provides that a children's playground must have seasonal shading elements — from 1 May to 30 September — covering at least 20% of its area. They are not required where natural shade, e.g. from trees, covers that area.
Status as of September 2026: the regulation is awaiting publication in the Polish Journal of Laws (Dziennik Ustaw). Until then it is a draft, not a binding rule.
The same requirement — seasonal shade over at least 20% of the playground from 1 May to 30 September — is part of the guidelines of the Polish government programme "Aktywne Place Zabaw" 2026 for playgrounds at nurseries and children's clubs.
We design, supply and install seasonal shade sails and permanent membrane canopies. We size the cover so that the shade reaches the required 20% of the playground while keeping the safety zones of the equipment clear.
