The Summer Theater in Kasprowicz Park in Szczecin, serving as the center of the city’s cultural life, is one of the most recognizable and esteemed cultural venues in Europe. Designed by Zbigniew Abrahamowicz in the 1970s, it has been the venue for many important cultural events ever since.
The renovation of the theater, carried out based on the winning concept by the British architectural firm Flanagan Lawrence, allowed for a modern and functional refreshment of the facility while preserving its symbolic character. The central element of the project is the reinforced concrete arch, which is a key symbol of the amphitheater and has been preserved in its original form as a tribute to the historical architecture of the venue.
The new roof covering was designed as a structure composed of membrane rhombuses, lined with special acoustic fabric on the underside. Thanks to this solution, the acoustics in the theater have been significantly improved, which is crucial for the reception of musical and theatrical performances. The white color scheme of the roofing not only visually brightens the space but also adds a sense of lightness and modernity to the entire structure. The white roofing, filled with air, makes the structure appear almost immaterial, further emphasizing its unique and modern character.
The Summer Theater in Szczecin, thanks to its renovation, has become not only a venue for cultural presentations but also a unique example of blending historical architecture with modern construction technologies. It has become a symbol of modernization and dynamic cultural development in the region, attracting both art and architecture enthusiasts.
