This year we had the pleasure of organising — together with the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology — a competition for sixth-semester students to design an innovative membrane canopy. The award ceremony at the Faculty of Architecture in Gliwice was the culmination of a creative and technical journey for the young designers.
Educational collaboration with mutual benefits
The competition was a perfect chance to combine teaching with practice. Students could apply design knowledge in a real technical context, and Abastran could observe and support future talent in the membrane industry. Inviting participants to our facility lets them see what professional canopy installation looks like and what technologies sit behind cover production and installation.
Participants and prizes
Students worked individually or in teams on concepts that combine function with artistic expression. Picking the best projects was not easy — the jury debated at length because many works were of the highest quality. The final results:
- 1st place (PLN 2 500) — team Natalia Zięta and Aleksandra Wojciechowska
- 2nd place (PLN 1 500) — team Ariana Nocoń, Magdalena Lebiocka and Jessica Napiórkowska
- Honourable mentions (PLN 500 each) — three teams:
- Kornelia Kajda
- Kinga Gałązka, Martyna Ćwiąkała
- Michał Głąb, Kamil Grenczak and Natalia Wieczorek
